William Howard "Billy"'s Story
William Howard Cousins, age 60, lifelong resident of Newburyport, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, August 25, 2016, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newbuyrport.
One of five children of Edna (Russ) Cousins and the late Kenneth L. Cousins, “Billy” was born in Newburyport on September 1, 1955, and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1974.
As a passionate cook and gardener with a green thumb, always ready to produce fresh herbs and vegetables, Billy took to the culinary arts and worked as a chef at the Tuna Striker in Seabrook, N.H. and the Olde Town Country Club in Newbury.
From an early age, he loved listening to music, especially the rich baritone sounds of Barry White and Luther Vandross. His musicality led to playing trumpet in a band, as well as playing piano. A true south ender and a joppyite, his love of the water and boats was second nature, as was going to the former Sportsmen’s Lodge to enjoy a great meal and listen to the live music. Billy also enjoyed his membership at the Neptunes, along with the many friends he made there.
In addition to his mother, Edna of Newburyport, he is survived by two brothers, Richard Cousins and wife, Roberta of Gloucester and Kenneth L. Cousins, Jr. of St Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Lisa A. Cousins of Newburyport and Geraldine Palmer of Portsmouth, N.H.; two nephews, Jacob of Gloucester and Gardner Cousins of Newburyport; two nieces, Monique, and Rebecca Grove and husband, Bart, all of Gloucester; a grand-niece, Madison Grove of Gloucester; along with several cousins, extended family members and many dear friends, all of whom loved and respected him.
