Gloucester - Antonio Ferrara, 82, of Gloucester, husband of Francesca (Canfora) Ferrara passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 13, 2020, at the Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Trappeto, Sicily, Italy, on August 29, 1937, son of the late Vito and Vincenza (LaFiora) Ferrara.
Antonio was a hard-working fisherman, having fished aboard the vessels, "Vincie and Josephine," "Vito C." and the "Little Flower." He was an avid gardener growing his famous tomatoes, zucchinis and eggplants. He also had a green thumb growing a variety of flowers too.
You could always find him hanging around at the Causeway Restaurant being Pete's helper. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother.
Antonio was a very simple man, never asking for much just having his family around him was all he needed. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Francesca Ferrara of Gloucester; his daughter, Enza Zappa and her husband Peter of Gloucester; his son, Vito Ferrara and his wife Dina of Peabody; five grandchildren, Filippo Zappa, Monique Zappa, Peter Zappa Jr., Anthony Ferrara and Valentina Ferrara; four brothers, Matteo Ferrara and his wife Pina of Italy, Giuseppe Ferrara and his wife Sara of Italy, Salvatore Ferrara and his wife Serafina of Gloucester, Vincenzo Ferrara and his wife Zina of California; sister-in-law, Vincenza Ferrara of Gloucester; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Leonardo Ferrara.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Thursday, January 16, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Thursday, January 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
