Hamilton - Hamilton - Arthur Justin Towne, age 84, of South Hamilton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Kaplan Hospice House, Danvers, on June 25, 2025. Born in Beverly, on October 28, 1940, he was the son of George and Ethel Towne of Essex, Massachusetts. He graduated from Gloucester High School, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Northeastern University. On his 21st birthday, he married Jean L. Scott, the love of his life for the next sixty-three years, and together they raised four children, to whom he was very devoted.

As a civil engineer, Arthur specialized in site and environmental planning, design and development, for projects such as the Northshore Mall, Liberty Tree Mall, Arsenal Mall and Solomon Pond Mall. He held professional engineering registrations in Massachusetts and Vermont, and also in landscape architecture in Maine and Rhode Island. He was a member of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, New England Association of Environmental Professionals, and the Association of Wetland Scientists.

An only child, he enjoyed an idyllic young life, working summers and vacations at Fischer Poultry Farm, and raising his own turkeys. He was an avid Boy Scout, and bought his first car at age sixteen, and spent evenings listening to country music from Nashville over his ham radio.

As an adult, he volunteered for the Topsfield Fair, Boy Scouts, Topsfield and Essex Historical Societies, Ipswich River Watershed, and travelled in Nova Scotia. He was a member of the shipbuilding club at the Peabody Senior Center and was a charter member of the Towne Family Association, Inc. He enjoyed camping, gardening, and woodworking.

Arthur is survived by his wife Jean and children: Janice L. Towne (Michael) DiGiaimo of New Jersey; Julie A. Towne and Scott E. Towne, each of Massachusetts; Eric A. Towne of New Hampshire.

His grandchildren include: Justin (Allison) Towne, William Towne, Anthony Colon, Eric Towne II and Ryan Towne, all of Massachusetts; Marc (Alexandra) DiGiaimo of Pennsylvania; Matthew (Jeena) DiGiaimo and Angela DiGiaimo, each of New Jersey; Liam Towne of California. Great-grandchildren are Ethan and Diana Towne of Massachusetts.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Church of St. Paul, Hamilton, on Tuesday, July 1st at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Monday, June 30th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
