Carmel "Kim" Normand Obituary

Gloucester - Gloucester - Carmel "Kim" (Benson) Normand passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at age 75.

Born in Bainbridge, NY on May 31, 1950, Kim attended Riverview School in East Sandwich, MA, Endicott College in Beverly, MA, and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. In 1971, she married Robert Normand, and they made their home in Gloucester, MA.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; her daughters, Kerry Herrmann (Craig), Erika Pruski (Matt), and Elizabeth Normand (Barry Noone); grandchildren Jane and Ruby Herrmann, Cecilia and Ellie Pruski, and Robert Moores; and her siblings Karen Nearpass (Gary), Tracey Smith (Gary), Lesley Brown (Ron), Allison Smith (Darryl), Kirk Benson (Carolyn), Scott Benson (Cheryl), and Kristyn DeGroat (Bob). She was predeceased by her parents, Drs. Kenneth and Jane Benson, her brother Kenneth, and her daughter Tammy Moores (John).

Education was at the heart of Kim's life. She taught at Hogan School and the North Shore Consortium, served on the Gloucester School Committee from 1987 to 2006, and co-founded the Gloucester School Connection which later grew into the Gloucester Education Foundation. Kim was a longtime member of Trinity Congregational Church.

Kim will be remembered for her compassion, her determination, her creativity, and her unwavering commitment to her family, her friends, and her city.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 12 p.m. at the Trinity Congregational Church, 70 Middle St. Gloucester, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are the same day, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester. Contributions may be made to the Gloucester Education Foundation, P.O.
