Beverly - Beverly - Charlesanna "Chuck" Detra (Eberly), 99, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025.
She was born January 7, 1926, to Walter Eberly and Helen Eberly (Sullenberger) in Lancaster, PA. A long-time resident of Eastern Point in Gloucester, MA, Chuck most recently resided at the Herrick House in Beverly, MA. On June 21, 1947, she married Ralph W. "Dutch" Detra, who preceded her in death. Prior to moving to Gloucester, Chuck and Dutch resided in Arlington and Winchester, MA, while spending summers at Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, NH, and winters in Warren, VT.
Chuck is survived by two sons, Stephen W. (Nancy), Guilford, VT, and David E. (Pamela), Arvada, CO, four grandchildren, Zachary D. (Joy), Lakewood, CO, Jennifer K. (Ryan Kelley), Westminster, CO, Colin W. (Kelsey), Tewksbury, MA, Nelly (Ira Wolf), Barnet, VT, and three great-grandchildren—Claire and Dylan (Zachary D. and Joy), Lakewood, CO, Morgan (Colin W. and Kelsey), Tewksbury, MA. She was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Zoey (Colin W. and Kelsey).
Chuck grew up in Lancaster, PA and attended McCaskey High School, where she met Dutch, her future husband. She was a graduate of the School of Nursing, Lancaster General Hospital, and later earned a Fine Arts degree from Chamberlayne Junior College. She volunteered at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center and successfully operated an interior design business.
Throughout her life, as an accomplished artist, she produced many works using various media, with her clear favorite being monotype printing. Her abundant creativity and discerning eye will be missed. She was very active with and served on the board of the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, MA.
Chuck loved spending time with her family, hosting dinner parties, attending art exhibitions, and walking on Eastern Point. She was a voracious reader and avid Mojang player.
