Gloucester - Christopher J. Sargent 64, lovingly known as "Stimey", died unexpectedly at his home on July 4, 2026. He was born on May 9, 1960, in Gloucester, MA. Chris was the son of the late Ralph and Edith (MacIssac) Sargent.

Chris graduated from Gloucester High School, Class of 1980. Following graduation, he received his degree in wastewater treatment from Essex Agricultural and Technical School. He was in the Army Reserves and jokingly referred to it as being a "weekend warrior".

Chris worked at the Gloucester Board of Health for over 20 years as both a sanitary inspector and later as the interim Director of Public Health before he retired.

Chris loved all types of sports and played on many local softball and football teams over the years in both Gloucester and Rockport. He was adventurous and fearless and wasn't afraid to try anything, including skydiving, white water rafting and some of the biggest roller coasters he could find ... the bigger the better! Aside from being a big sports fan he had a nerdy side, he loved all types of sci-fi and goofy comedy movies and frequently quoted movie lines from them. Chris will be remembered most for his goofy sarcastic sense of humor (pulling many pranks on his family and friends) and for always being there for his brother James "Jamie" Sargent, never missing any important date in his life.

Chris is survived by his three children; Mathieu C. Sargent, Rebecca K. (Becka) Sargent, and Lucas M. Sargent and his wife Tabitha A. (Mckay); his beloved brother, James M. Sargent and his fiancée Sarah Russell; Janice Keating of CA, Carolyn Frost and her husband Arthur of Gloucester. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Keziah M.A., Trinity J., and Jameson E. Sargent. Chris is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne and Allyn Smith were a big part of Chris' life, with Allyn jokingly stating that "he came to stay with us for a few weeks and stayed for six years." He was also close to their many children, the late Mike Smith, Allyn (Chip), Jimmy, Danny, Steve, and Karen Smith. With them he found a loving home to grow up in complete with additional brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of life will be held at Pratty's CAV, 10 Parker Street, Gloucester, on Saturday, August 1, from 12 to 3 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
