Gloucester - David Cox, 89, of Gloucester, MA, passed away peacefully at Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on the evening of July 4, 2026. David was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.

David was the son of Frank L. Cox and Annabell MacAuley Cox of Gloucester MA.

David was a proud member of the US Marine Corp Reserve.

For 35 years, David was the proprietor of Main Street Arts & Antiques, where his sharp eye and passion for antiquities, art, books, beautiful objects, postcards and historical ephemera, made him well known to collectors from far and wide.

Those who knew David best, knew him first as a photographer— rarely seen without two cameras around his neck. David navigated the world through his lens. Much of his work captured the events, people, sports, landscapes, flowers on the boulevard and the nature on Cape Ann. He generously shared that gift with the community. He loved photographing the Gloucester High School football team and cheerleaders.

David was, by every account, a character — unmistakable and unforgettable to everyone who crossed his path.

David is survived by his children, Kimberly A. Cox of Gloucester, MA, Alison L. Cox and her husband Michael P. O'Dea of Gloucester MA, and his son, David M. Cox, of Sag Harbor, New York and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Tyler M. Cox, his parents and by his siblings, Frank Cox, Norman Cox, Theo Lovell, Louise Ingham, Christine Lane, Blanche Shaw and Marjorie Champagne.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to the kind and caring staff at Seacoast and to the Care Dimension hospice team.

Memorial Service to celebrate David's life will be held at the Annisquam Village Church on September 12th, 2026 at 10:00am. Reception following the service.
