Gloucester - Donald F. "Buzz" McEachern, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion (Manning) McEachern whom he was married to for 45 years. Born on April 27, 1927, Buzz was the son of the late Donald and Elva (Lantz) McEachern.
Buzz was a graduate of Gloucester High School. At the end of Buzz's junior year he enlisted in the Navy. After boot camp, he was stationed onboard the USS (LSV) Montauk. He served in the Pacific until the end of WWII. Upon honorable discharge, he returned back to Gloucester high and graduated with the class of 1949.
After graduation he attended Beverly Trade School. Buzz worked for D.O.Frost, and United Shoe in Beverly before he finally joined GTE Sylvania in Salem where he worked for 37 years.
Buzz was passionate about music. He was a self-taught drummer as part of the Gloucester/Manchester Union Band and used his talents to play at many dances. He and his wife joined the Gloucester Skipper's Square Dance Group where he became president of the club. When his sons were playing Little League he joined the board of directors of the Gloucester Little League. He and his wife were one of the original founders of the "Friends of Seacoast" which raises money to bring extras such as entertainment to the residents of Seacoast Nursing Home.
Buzz loved his family and took pride in his Saturday morning coffee time surrounded by many family and friends. He is survived by sons, Gary husband of June (Etherington) of Danvers, Glen husband of Maryann Linquata of Gloucester, daughters, Sharon wife of James Crowley of Gloucester, and Lois wife of Richard Girard of Essex; and his 11 grandchildren Brian Crowley husband of Elizabeth, Jason Girard and fiance Emily White, Amy Girard, Rebecca Prevost wife of Wesley, Lindsy Wood wife of Edward, Christy McEachern, Megan Hubbard wife of Cory, Kyle McEachern, Brooklyn McEachern, Kennedy and Kelsey Rounds; along with 7 great-grandsons, who he adored; a brother, Lawrence McEachern and companion Florence Martin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Philip and Barbara Capone, Jean Manning and Leonard Boyle. Besides his wife of 45 years and his parents, he is predeceased by brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Peg McEachern; sisters and brother-in-law, Alma "Sis" and Robert Hall; sisters-in-law, Rosalie McEachern and Kathleen Boyle; brother-in-law, John "Sonny" Manning; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Nora Manning. His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, Tuesday, November 12, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Beechbrook Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, on Monday, November 11, from 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
