Gloucester - Eleanora Theresa (Piscitello) Tarr, born February 1, 1943 passed from this life on Monday, January 14, 2019 in Lahey Clinic Hospital Burlington with her family by her side. She fought a seven week battle with congestive heart failure. She is the beloved wife of Richard S. “Dick” Tarr with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.

Dick and Ellie “Mae”, as Dickie called her, were married on September 27, 1964, in Saint Ann’s Church. Joe Pal and his band played at their reception at the Moose Hall.

They lived down the cut, 39 Western Ave where they brought up their sons Tim and Tom. Ellie could be found walking the boys in the stroller, on the back shore.

In August, 1976, the family went on a three week camping trip to Yellow Stone National Park. Ellie always said it was a rough trip, she did all the laundry, cooking and lot of driving. In July of 1977, Ellie and the guys moved to West Gloucester. She became a board member with Dick of the West Gloucester Chargers Youth Program. She worked the food tables at the Pee Wee football games, and as a soccer mom for the boy’s soccer teams.

Ellie and Dick were in a few Horrible Parades dressed in Mr. and Mrs. Smurf costumes. Ellie dressed in pads and helmet as a football player, and Dick as a cheerleader, wig and tutu. That’s what chargers did. She was also a long time parishoner at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Gloucester Elks 892.

She worked for many years as G. Everett Mahony Insurance Company as a Homeowners Rep. After retirement, she would see folks, and talk about how their insurance policies were working. She loved that job, and she was good at it.

El and Dick started traveling with Carole Horne’s coffee shop gang in 1997. They did this together for years. Most recently, a cruise to the British Isles with Carole’s daughter Lori Horne. Most importantly, she was a devoted “NANA” to her granddaughters. Watching them grow from babies to brownies, dancers, musicians, cheerleaders, soccer players, track runners, lacrosse players and equestrian riders. Then, on to their High School Proms, and then to College.

This past November she celebrated the 20th Thanksgiving with extended family at the home of Donald’s (in laws to her son Tom.) She loved to make special dishes like Nana’s Chicken and Jellow Cake. She will be dearly missed by her family and all that knew her.

In addition to her loving husband Dick, Eleanora is survived by her sons Timothy E. Tarr of Georgia, Thomas E. Tarr and his wife Shannon of Atkinson, NH. Her sisters Frances Grace and her late husband George, Marie Hunter and her husband Donald, Virginia Deveau and her husband David. Her brothers Bart Piscitello and his wife Mary, and Frank Piscitello who are from Gloucester. Her brother-in-law Jack Tarr and his wife Sandi. Her granddaughters Chelsea Jean Tarr of Florida, Allison Carney Tarr, Meghan Elizabeth Tarr, and Kaitlyn Alexis Tarr all of Atkinson, NH. She is also survived by her grandkids by love Joseph and Jillian Wallace, Ryan and Erin Donald and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her favorite little guys David John and James Deveau.

Eleanora’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St Gloucester on Thursday evening, January 17, 2019 from 4-8 PM. Her Funeral will be from the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 8:30 AM. Eleanora’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester at 9:30 AM. Immediately following Mass the family with continue the celebration of Ellie’s life at the Elks at Bass Rocks, 101 Atlantic Road Gloucester. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
