Essex - Essex - Elissa Jean Clifton, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 61, in Danvers, MA.
Born on August 15, 1963, in Brighton, MA, Elissa's life was marked by her loving spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness.
Elissa proudly served her country in the United States Navy, a time that instilled in her a deep sense of duty, discipline, and compassion. That compassion became the foundation of a fulfilling career in healthcare, where she dedicated herself to the care and comfort of seniors. Her colleagues remember her as a beacon of light—always ready with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a helpful hand.
She cherished her life in Ipswich and embraced every opportunity to enjoy its beautiful beaches. Elissa was also well known for her love of baking—especially her cookies and cupcakes, with her key lime cupcakes being a standout favorite. Her creativity and generosity were evident in every sweet treat she shared, brightening the days of many.
Elissa's sense of humor, welcoming personality, and genuine kindness made her a beloved figure among her family and friends, including those from Middletown, Ohio, where she previously lived. She found great joy in her work as a nurse and treasured the close friendships she formed with her co-workers, many of whom became good friends.
Elissa was the loving mother of Joshua Howell and Jennifer Lansaw, and a proud grandmother to Timothy and Maddie. She is survived by her sisters, Jennifer Ywuc (Joseph Ywuc); Suzanne Browning Scanlon, as well as her brother, George Browning (Debbie McLaughlin). She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Susan Priest; her stepmother, Jann Clarke; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Clifton, and her parents, Bruce Browning and Patricia Shaw.
Elissa's life was a beautiful testament to the power of kindness, love, and family. Her generous spirit, joyful laughter, and deep empathy touched the lives of everyone she met. She will be remembered for the warmth she brought into every room and the way she made others feel truly seen and valued.
