Ellen E. Low Obituary

Gloucester - Ellen Elizabeth Low, 81, of Gloucester, MA, formerly of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 3, 1945, in West Roxbury, MA, Ellen was the daughter of the late Francis J. Farrenkopf and the late Rita A. (Lavin) Farrenkopf. She grew up in Saugus, Massachusetts and cherished her summers in Gloucester at the family home, lovingly built by hand by her father—a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. Ellen graduated from Saugus High School in 1963. While working as a secretary in Boston, she met her future husband, George, at one of his lively parties in Roxbury.

On July 12, 1969, Ellen married George W. Low, Jr. Together they built a beautiful life and family in Warwick, Rhode Island. Widowed in 1987 at the age of 42, Ellen demonstrated remarkable strength, resilience, and deep faith as she devoted herself to raising their four children and guiding them through high school, college, marriage, and the many challenges of adult life.

In addition to raising her family, Ellen enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, touching the lives of countless patients throughout southern Rhode Island. She was known for her compassion, warmth, and ability to make every patient feel cared for and loved.

In retirement, she found her greatest joy in helping to raise her ten grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children: Katherine Mary Low (Vincent) and Patrick Francis Low (Serena), both of Gloucester, MA, Kevin Michael Low (Angela) of Grand Isle, Vermont; and Paul George Low (Diana) of Warwick, RI, and her 10 cherished grandchildren: Nicholas, Isabella, Megan, Jacob, Jackson, Andrew, Ash, Alex, Elizabeth, and Jack.

Ellen also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, whose thoughtful letters, calls, and cherished visits brought her great comfort and companionship, especially in her later years. She loved them dearly and treasured the special place they all held in her life. Ellen was also blessed with many lifelong friends, including Susan Kenny, Connie MacQuarrie, Jean Miga, and Mary Cook, who were a constant source of support, companionship, and friendship throughout her life.

Ellen will be remembered for her steadfast Catholic faith, her gentle spirit, her quiet courage, and the unconditional love she showed to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Saints Rose & Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick, Rhode Island. Burial will follow, beside her husband, at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you celebrate Ellen's life by extending an act of kindness to someone in need.
