Gloucester - Florence (Knowles) Merchant of Gloucester, passed away at Seacoast Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, of natural causes at the age of 101.
She was born on May 31, 1918, to the parents of the late Viola and Sumner Knowles.
Florence was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend. How fortunate people were who had Florence touch their life in anyway. Florence was well known throughout Cape Ann for her expertise in the restoration of antique china and pottery. Her restoration was a work of art that was sought after near and far.
Florence is survived by daughters Harriet, wife of Robert LoPiccolo of Gloucester and Joan Lane of Gloucester; son Ronald Merchant husband of Donna (Malaquias) of Gloucester. She was Blessed with 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter Patricia (Merchant) Dinkin of Milford and son Hugh D. Merchant of Beverly, MA, brothers Elliot, Parker, and Sheldon Knowles, sisters, Betty Frederick, Harriet MacDonald, Roberta Davis and Janice Richards. Florence was also predeceased by her grandsons Kevin C. Lane and Mark D. Merchant and her great grandson John (JJ) Nicastro.
Florence's family would like to thank the entire staff at Seacoast Nursing Home for the wonderful care and compassion showered upon our dear Mother. We are forever grateful to them ALL!

Her graveside service will be held at Beechbrook Cemetery, Essex Avenue, Gloucester, on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Florence's name may be made to Friends of Seacoast, Gloucester. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 middle Street, Beverly.
