Hyannis - Hyannis - George Elliot French, 84 of Hyannis, MA. Died at Cape Cod Hospital on October 4, 2025. He was born on February 22, 1941, in Ipswich MA to Jerome and Abbie French. George graduated from Gloucester High School and attended Bentley College, and he served in the US Army. George married Ruth Gaffney on May 1, 1965, and they had three children, Michael, Terri and Kelley. He worked as a US Postal worker, starting in Ipswich, working many years in Essex and retiring in Rowley. George was an avid fan of all sports, especially baseball, which he coached and umpired for many years. Many teams were surprised to see his team arrive at games in his mail truck. He was a long-time firefighter/EMT with the Essex Fire Department. George enjoyed belonging to many groups and organizations, especially The Masons. George is survived by his wife Ruth, son Michael and his wife Michele, daughter Kelley, grandchildren Aaron Steele, Brooke Miller-Steele, her husband Cody Miller-Steele and great granddaughter June Ivy Miller-Steele. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jerome and Abbie, his sister Gloria, and his daughter Terri and son in law Lawrence Flattes. All are welcome to attend services at the South Congregational Church, Centerville MA on October 21, 2025, at 11:00AM and/or a graveside service at the Spring Street Cemetery in Essex MA on October 23, 2025, at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the South Congregation Church, Centerville MA or Essex Fire Company, Essex MA.
