Manchester-by-the-Sea - George "Jake" Thadeus Maijenski passed away on December 18, 2025, after a brief hospital stay. He was 98 years old.

Jake was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. After finishing high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1945 to 1950, and attained the rank of Sergeant. Jake often recounted that he was aboard a ship en route to Nagasaki when President Truman dropped the bombs, adding with a smile, "And that is why I'm able to be here and drink a beer with you!"

After returning from the war, Jake settled down with his bride, Evelyn, in 1954. Together, they raised three sons. Family lore tells the story of Evelyn spotting a tall, handsome man working at Bullock's Grocery Store, going inside, and stepping on his foot—just to get his attention. It worked, and the rest is history. Jake later went on to work for John Hancock Insurance Company, where he remained until his retirement in 1993.

Jake was an avid golfer, having taught himself the game on the fairways and greens of the Essex County Club. His favorite moments were spent golfing alongside his sons and grandson. Beyond the Club, Jake could often be found on his daily walks along Singing Beach. He deeply appreciated the ocean and the beauty of living by the sea, never taking it for granted.

Jake was a proud and loyal man. He counted many among his close friends and could hardly step outside his home without running into someone and chatting for hours. He was an easy man to like. When Evelyn moved into an assisted living facility in 2015, Jake visited her every day for the next four years, always bringing flowers and treats for her to enjoy. Nurses joked that they threatened their own partners, insisting they "be like Jake" when they got older. He was devastated by Evelyn's passing.

Jake was predeceased by his oldest son, Greg (1999), and his wife, Evelyn (2019). He is survived by his two sons, William of Magnolia, MA and Venice, FL, and Paul of Beverly, MA; his daughter-in-law, Sally Maijenski of Danvers; his grandson, Michael Maijenski of Beverly; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family welcomes you to celebrate Jake on Tuesday, December 23rd. Visiting hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, 62 School Street, Manchester, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to the American Legion Hall on Rear Central Street at noon.
