Rockport - Gwendolyn Stephenson, 93 of Rockport, died on Sunday, January 11th. Born in Palmer, MA on August 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Olive (Smith) Stephenson.
Gwen was a graduate of Williamstown High School and went on to attain a bachelor's degree from Mt. Holyoke College. She worked her entire career at Mass Mutual Insurance Company in Springfield, MA. Gwen started out in the actuary department and over her years of dedicated service, she earned multiple promotions and retired as a company Vice President.
Gwen was very involved in the Rockport community. She served as treasurer for many years at the Sandy Bay Historical Society in Rockport. She was also very active for many years at the Rockport Community House.
Gwen had many interests and hobbies. She loved to delve into the history of Rockport and even conducted a few presentations on the town for the Sandy Bay Historical Society. She also lead a dedicated group of volunteers at SBHS in a project to digitize all the records.
In her younger years, Gwen enjoyed gardening, knitting, and playing the piano. She also cherished the time spent with her nieces and nephews as well as her many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gwen is survived by her nieces and nephews; Robert Stephenson and his wife, Cindie, of Milford, CT, Michael Stephenson and his wife, Barbara, of Cape Coral, FL, Susan Stephenson of Dalton, MA, David Stephenson and his wife, Deborah, of Groveland, Scott Stephenson and his wife, Jenny, of Oak Island, NC, Douglas Stephenson, and his wife, Paula, of Housatonic, MA, and Robert Stephenson and his husband, Tim Boska, of Amherst, NY. She also leaves six great-nephews and five great-nieces and their families.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two brothers and their wives, Peter and Patricia Stephenson and Donald and Jan Stephenson.
Funeral services for Gwen are private.
