Harold L. Heussi Obituary

Essex - Harold L. Heussi, age 91, of Essex, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026. He was the husband of the late Meredith (Comstock) Heussi, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage.

Born in Quincy, MA, Harold was the son of the late Rudolph and Gertrude "BZ" Heussi. Harold is predeceased by his brother "Rudy" Heussi and his sister, Norma Barrier. As a child, Harold spent many hours loitering in machine shops, Zildjian cymbals factory and garages including his father's "Texaco" station in Quincy. Harold earned the nickname "Hot Rod Harry" learning to build race cars with legends, Lem Ladd, Johnny Lathrop and Lindy Hanson who were all considered the fastest men on land at the time! Harold began his career in the Navy and served during the Korean War as a radio man on the destroyer, "USS Gherardi". He received his degree in drafting at Northeast Technical College. Harold's valuable skills flourished at "MIT", "Raytheon", "Thermet" then ultimately committing till retirement at "Dynamet Technology, Inc." where his contributions shined in the medical science, sports and industrial world of metallurgy. Harold had a knack for photography and painting and had impeccable musical taste. Harold enjoyed traveling in the countryside and attending his ship reunions with friends and family.

Harold was a proud Freemason of 55 years and made regular donations to various causes.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Adrienne and her partner Tim Barton; sons, Jonathan, Eric, and Jeremy and his spouse Claire Mangonon.

Harold was predeceased by his daughter, Audrey Holmstrem.

Harold was especially fond of his grandchildren, Timothy, Lauren, Aja, Alexandra, Maizi, Andrew and Jenelle. Also, great grandchildren Eli, Rowan, Asher, Arabelle and Enzo. Harold's family circle reaches far and wide with close ties to our extended family from the South Shore, New Hampshire, Maine, Colorado, California, Africa and the Philippines. Harold's coffee club at Woodman's and stops around Essex forged meaningful friendships with the best kind of people, affectionately known as "Townies". We personally want to share our deep appreciation for everyone who took time out of their day to help Harold along, make appointments, deliver treats, have conversations and take special care when he needed it the most. We love you all. Essex Fire Department and Emergency Services have always been there for Harold. We are grateful for your compassion and specialized care.
