Harry N. Hintlian Obituary
GLOUCESTER - Harry N. Hintlian of Gloucester and Cambridge died on February 15, 2021. He was president and owner of Superior Nut Company, Cambridge, Mass. The son of the founder and second generation in the family business, he joined the company in 1963 after university and his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Hintlian was responsible for many innovations and modernizations, as he grew his business nationally and internationally. He was forward-thinking, kind and compassionate, devoting much of his time in the latter part of his life to making the world a better place. His role as a pioneer in environmental sustainability led him to partner with Dr. Herster Barres of Reforest The Tropics (RTT), where he served as Chairman of the Board until the time of his death. One of his proudest accomplishments was making Superior Nut the first company in America to be 100% carbon balanced through tropical forestry. In recognition of his environmental protection accomplishments benefiting communities and ecosystems, Mr. Hintlian received a prestigious Environmental Merit Award from the Environmental Protection Agency. He was a tireless force, recruiting companies and organizations to join him in becoming carbon balanced. Mr. Hintlian also recognized the importance of educating younger generations in caring for the planet through RTT's educational programs as well as his support for elementary school science programs. His philanthropic work extended to numerous charities and non-profits. Harry was predeceased by his parents Nubar and Araxie Farishian Hintlian. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Driscoll Hintlian; son Justin and wife Paige of Marblehead, Mass.; daughter Lauren and husband Joseph Torcivia, of Red Bank, N.J.; granddaughters Brooke and Holly Hintlian; brother Arnold Hintlian; and sisters Lorraine Damerjian and Arleen Martin.
