James Darcy Obituary

East Northport - James Patrick Darcy, Sr, passed into eternal life on March 1, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and art, and will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Born in Ispwich, Massachusetts, on February 17, 1953, to parents Richard T. Darcy and Salina, he grew up in Gloucester and Rockport, a true son of Cape Ann.

Jim regaled all who knew him with tales of his colorful and busy life. He was a proud Gloucester fisherman in his younger years, as well as a talented drummer and guitarist with various bands.

After moving to East Northport, NY, in his late twenties to raise a family, he was a union carpenter with Local 7 for many years. Jim could make just about anything in his backyard workshop!

In his later years, Jim returned to his first love, art. He was a talented and versatile artist, excelling in mediums such as pen and ink, lithography, oils, and watercolors equally. He was a founding member of the Firefly Artists in Northport, sharing his infectious enthusiasm for art and artists with all patrons. Even in his final years, his greatest joy was to sit in his studio or in the gallery, creating art and talking with other artists. His love of art was only exceeded by his love of his family, particularly his many grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his daughters, Sybil Darcy, Meaghan Ruf, and Kerrin Cross, his grandchildren Nicholas, Michael, Rebecca, Juliana, Grace, Evelyn, Willow, Magnolia, Adela, and Violet, his nephews Kenneth, Peter, Jake, and Connor, and a large and loving network of extended family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his sons, J. Patrick Darcy and Jonah Mayotte, his parents, Richard and Salina, his sister Sally Takekawa, and his brother Thomas Darcy.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Firefly Artists at 90 Main Street, Northport, NY, from 2 to 5 p.m. All who knew and loved Jim are welcome to attend.
