Janet "Jan" Salmon Obituary
Rockport - Janet P. Salmon passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2026. She was born to Mae and Conrad Pfromm on January 9, 1936, in Hazelton, PA in the middle of a big snowstorm. After her family moved to Lancaster, PA she exceled as a student, graduating from Manheim High School, Neffsville, PA and continuing her formal education for 2 years at Cedar Crest College, Allentown, PA. She met and married the love of her life, Jerre, on November 26, 1955, just 11 days before he was drafted into the United States Navy. The young couple later settled in the Binghamton, NY area where they raised 2 beautiful daughters.
Jan enjoyed being a mother and homemaker, but she was also trained as a full charge bookkeeper. She loved her trade, and of the several positions she held over the years, none brought more fulfillment than her work with an architectural firm called Bearsch Compeau & Associates in Binghamton.
Early in her life Jan developed a passion for sewing and had a real talent for creating beautiful objects from material. She concentrated on quilting, but knit and crafted all sorts of pretty and well-made things. After retirement she had more time for her hobbies.
Three of her quilts were auctioned off and raised thousands of dollars. Crossroads Quilters of Beverly, the Sandy Bay Museum of Rockport, and the Naples, FL Philharmonic Orchestra were the beneficiaries. Over the years Jan taught many quilting classes; always a patient teacher. Despite the considerable time Jan devoted to her hobbies, she found time to travel extensively with her husband and to develop into a first-rate cook.
Jan leaves behind her beloved husband, Jerre, with whom she shared 70 remarkable years of marriage. She is also survived by her loving family: Daughter Deborah Salmon and her wife Kerrie Despres of Rockport, and daughter Laura Leeds and her husband Matthew Leeds of Beverly.
Friends are invited to keep Jan and her family in their thoughts and prayers. No services or visiting hours are planned at this time. Sometime in the future cremation remains will be joined with those of her husband and scattered in the sea.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
