Jerome J. Pimental Obituary

Newbury - Jerome J. Pimental passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at his home, with his family after losing a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Gloucester on April 9, 1926 to Mabel Rose and Manual Joseph Pimental. He attended Gloucester High and graduated in 1944. He was a ROTC first lieutenant and then went into the navy, the Pacific area. After serving he attended AIC in Springfield, Mass. One of his proudest jobs growing up was cutting fish on the Gloucester wharfs (part of his heritage). His first job out of college was working as circulation manager for the Dailey News in Newburyport. Many years later he retired from his career as a banker in Boston.

In 1958 he met and married Cecile N. Gallant, the love of his life. They were married for 62 years. They built a home in Newbury where they raised their family.

Jerry loved all sports. He enjoyed playing basketball and golf. He belonged to Ould Newbury Golf Club for many years. He was an avid gardener who shared his bumper crops with all, including his prize "Greek" heirloom tomatoes. In the early 80's he discovered motorcycles and enjoyed many rides, even riding his bike to work in Boston.

One could say that he epitomized Dylan Thomas's famous poem "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight".

He is predeceased by his son, Jeff Pimental. He is survived by his wife, Cecile N. Pimental, of Newbury; his daughter Michelle Pimental of Newburyport and his daughter Heather Paul and Brad, of Beverly; his granddaughter, Tiffany Monteforte and Dan Savage and their children, Alexandra, Marissa, and Zachary of Salisbury and his son's wife, Sheri Pimental of Huntsville, Ala., her son, Tyler Pimental of Gurley, AL, Sean Pimental and Erin and their children, Aislin, Ardan, Anora of Huntsville, Ala. and Rachael Pimental of Huntsville, Ala.

There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In a recent conversation, Jerry wished that he could thank his family, his friends and the caregivers that had helped him during his illness. Donations can be made to Care Dimensions at 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.
