Gloucester - Joan M. (Burns) Rocha, 91, of Gloucester, wife of the late Frederick J. Rocha, passed away on the evening of Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with her family by her side. Joan was born in Gloucester, Mass., on April 7, 1928, and was the daughter of the late John and Marion (Flynn) Burns. Joan attended St. Ann's grammar school and graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1946. She worked as a Gloucester Public School noon supervisor for over 48 years at Veteran's Memorial (Ward II) School. Joan had quite a few interests, she was a member of the Cape Ann Bowling League, a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, she baked and decorated numerous wedding and birthday cakes, and was an excellent knitter and seamstress. She had traveled to Ireland, Hawaii, Bermuda, and the Islands, as well as satisfying her need for fun at the slot machines in Vegas, Foxwoods, and Twin River. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were an integral part of her life and she loved spending time with them. She was a wonderful, caring lady who will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Swanson and her husband Bruce of Beverly; three grandchildren, Cindy Fletcher (Tarantino) and her husband Rob, Keri Nelson and her husband Wayne, all of Gloucester, and Amy Mitchell and her husband James of Salem; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Danskin and Christopher, Lucas and Thomas Nelson, all of Gloucester; one sister, Beatrice Kimball of Danvers; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her six brothers, John, Bobby, Billy, Neil, Father David Burns, and Brother Thomas Burns.
