John Albert "Al" Love

Gloucester - John A. "Al" Love, of Woburn, MA; Deerfield Beach, FL; and Gloucester, MA died peacefully at the age of 90 on June 14th, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to the late Evelyn M. "Evie" (Martin) Love.
Born and raised in Woburn, MA, Al was born in Woburn, MA to Alexander and Edyth (Cunningham) Love. He graduated from Woburn Memorial High School in 1952, and soon after, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Al served his country proudly in the Korean War, until being honorably discharged in 1957.
Al worked for the Cryovac Division of W.R. Grace for 35 years, retiring as the Shipping and Receiving Manager. But he was never comfortable not working in some capacity, and, after retiring to Deerfield Beach, FL, Al found a new career in the local golf shops. In fact, he was driving for CMARC of Woburn and serving on the Gloucester Council of Aging into his late 80s.
Al was an easy man to admire and led by example. His courage in telling the truth was one key factor that enabled the investigation to uncover the cause of the contamination of the well water in East Woburn, which later became a book and movie (A Civil Action). He most recently spoke about this experience at the Dreamland Theatre in Nantucket.
Al's greatest love was his family. He thrived at being an active father, grandfather, and great grandfather, supporting his children in every way and coaching his sons in hockey. Many summers were spent in Hampton Beach, NH at the "Love Nest," with many afternoon wiffle ball games. Al was also a devoted friend and found great joy in hosting family and friends for birthday and holiday celebrations.
Al is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Shirley (Charles) Kearns of Rockport, MA; Karen (Brian Silva) Love of Gloucester, MA; John (Maureen) Love Jr of Abingdon, MD; Scott (Rose) Love of Stratham, NH; Elizabeth Coakley of Gloucester, her husband Ralph of Woburn, Louise Love, her fiancé, Timothy Saulnier of Gloucester, MA Robert (Sheryl) Love Reading, MA; and David (Tricia) Love Topsfield, MA; as well as 19 grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Lois Love; his siblings George Love, Shirley Balog and Lois Cassidy. Cherished grandfather of nineteen, including the late Daniel Coakley and great-grandfather of thirteen. Al is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great and grand.
A Funeral will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn MA on Friday, June 21st, at 12:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects PRIOR to the service from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Interment is private. Remembrances may be made in Al's honor to a charity of one's choice

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
