Kenneth B. Gray Obituary

Beverly - Beverly - Kenneth B. Gray, 87, of Beverly, formerly of Rockport, passed away on July 23, 2025, at Seacoast Nursing and Rehab Center in Gloucester.

Born on April 24, 1938 in Waltham, Ken was the son of the late Earl and Evelyn (Brooks) Gray. Ken was raised and educated in Waltham, where he grew up alongside his three brothers. Ken was a graduate of Waltham High School.

A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Ken served from 1955 to 1958, achieving the rank of Airman Recruit and receiving a parachute jumping certificate. He was a talented mechanic who enjoyed flying in the P2-Neptune, but often shared his fondest memory of taxiing an F4U Corsair.

Following his military service, Ken married his former wife Bonnie Brown, and they settled in Hudson to start a family. Discovered on many camping trips, their love of Cape Ann eventually led them to Rockport, where Ken, a true handyman, restored their home and built a garage. He enjoyed working with his hands and had a deep love for the ocean. He spent countless hours fixing up his many boats before heading out to fish and lobster. Ken was also an active member of the Rockport community, volunteering with the Rockport Police and Fire Departments and becoming an EMT with the newly founded ambulance service. Known for his great sense of humor and sharp wit, Ken was never one to shy away from an argument and was affectionally nicknamed "Homer" after Homer Simpson. He also shared a passion for music and enjoyed playing the Hammond organ.

Later in life, Ken moved to Beverly, where he found enjoyment working at The Home Depot and then driving a bus for the Ipswich YMCA until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Ken is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Willam and Judy.

Ken is survived by his sons, Jeffery Gray and his wife, Mary-Kathryn (Cluett) and Kevin Gray, his brothers, Ronald Gray and his wife, Jacqueline and Robert Gray and his wife Gail, his grandchildren, Jeffrey Cluett and Lily Gray, his nieces and nephews, Douglas Gray and his wife Natasha (and their son, Timor), Heidi Gray and her daughter, Evelyn, Sean Gray, and Melanie Gray, as well as extended family and friends.

A celebration of life for friends and family will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 20 Colburn Street, Gloucester at 1 p.m. Assisting with the arrangements is O'Donnell Cremations-Funerals-Celebrations, 167 Maple St., Danvers.
