Rockport - Leslie P. (Bud) Curtis passed away peacefully on November 4, 2019. Born in Rockport on February 2, 1927, he was the son of Percey and Maude Curtis. He attended Rockport Schools, graduating in the class of 1944. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the LST 399 in the South Pacific. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946. Upon returning home he joined his father in the family business known as Curtis News. He operated that store for the next 40 years. After selling the business in 1985 he sold Real Estate with Beaton Real Estate in Rockport for many years. In 1951 he married the love of his life, the late Helen (Rundgren) Curtis. They had two sons, David W. and Gary P. Curtis.
He was a member of the Ashler Lodge of Masons, the Edward Peterson Post 98 American Legion and Bass Rocks Golf Club. He was elected to the Board of Investment at the Granite Savings Bank and was a charter member of the Rockport Rotary Club. After serving as Rockport Rotary Club President in 1961, he went on to serve Rotary International as Team Leader of the Cultural Exchange programs, traveling twice to England, and twice to India. In 1984-85 he served as District Governor for district 793. Both he and his wife were designated Paul Harris Fellows of Rotary International.
He is survived by his son David and his wife Georgina (Cid) of Shaftsbury, Vermont, and his son Gary and his wife Karen Groebel of Palo Alto, California; three granddaughters, Morgan of Canton, Mass., Kristina of St. Albans, Vermont, and Adele of San Jose, California, and a grandson Nathan of Palo Alto, California. He is also survived by four great grandchildren: Victor, Sawyer, Anthony and Cora.

There are no visiting hours. His graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. in Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport. Family and friends are cordially invited. Following Bud's burial, a reception will be held at 11 a.m. at the Rockport Legion at Back Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to: Rockport Rotary Club, P.O. Dave and Gary, my sincere condolences to you and your family. I, along with all of Rockport, have fond memories of going to Curtis News. Your dad was certainly an icon. God bless you all.
