Louisa Asaro Obituary

Gloucester - Louisa (Balbo) Asaro, 95, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Samuel "Sam" Asaro, with whom she shared 74 years of marriage.

She was born in Gloucester, MA on March 23, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Gilardi) Balbo.

Louisa was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1949. She was a homemaker who cared for her growing family that she adored, always putting her family first. She also loved babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her husband wasn't working, they enjoyed cooking all their favorite dishes together. In her younger years, she loved hanging out with her girlfriends and going to the beaches at Good Harbor and at Stage Fort Park. When her children were grown up, she went to work at The Cape Ann Laundry Mat. She was an avid swimmer; she loved bowling and watching tennis. Most recently she enjoyed Bingo at the senior center.

She will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew her.

Louisa is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Milne, Linda Burnham, Louise Bertolino, Pamela Couture and her husband Peter Couture, and Therese Asaro; her sons, Peter Asaro and his wife Karen Asaro, Joseph Asaro and his wife Crisann Asaro. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristi, Sharon, Shawna, Lindsay, Melissa, Michael, Peter, Stacie, Stephanie, and Olivia; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Louisa is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Balbo and Rosemarie Asaro, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Samuel, Louisa was predeceased by brothers, Sammy Balbo and his wife Kitty and Gussie Balbo; nephew, Danny Balbo; and son-in-law, David Milne.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish, 74 Pleasant Street, Gloucester on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A private burial will be held in the spring.
