Margaret R. Guest Obituary

Gloucester - Margaret "Peg" Geraldine Rose Guest (102) of Gloucester passed away in the presence of her loved ones on March 31, 2026. Born in Gloucester in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie May (Campbell) Rose and sister of Barbara Rose and Priscilla Amero.

Following 30 years of service at Massachusetts Electric, Peg founded her own business – the Ancient Mariner Gift shop – becoming a fixture in downtown Gloucester. A champion of Cape Ann, she volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce long after her contemporaries retired. But what her loved ones will miss most is Peg's warmth, wonderful sense of humor and adventurous spirit.

Celebrating each day with a glass of bubbly, Peg was a gourmet cook who delighted in sharing a table with her family and friends. Having traveled the world for both business and leisure – including in a hot air balloon - Peg reveled in discussing your travel plans and always counseled, "enjoy every minute!" Never afraid of a challenge, she could throw a baseball, sew a dress from Vogue and play a round of golf at Bass Rocks Country Club. Peg even learned to ski - in her sixties.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Guest-McPhail and son, Tim Guest and his wife Bonnie; grandchildren Jayne Marshall, Marcus Stewart and his wife, Maria; great-grandchildren Jules Marshall, Marianina Stewart and Michael Stewart; nephews, Ralph Amero and his wife Choco, Clifford Amero and his wife Glenda, David Amero and his husband, Matt Dixon, Jim Amero, and their families. Peg will also be missed by her dear friends John and Lynne Curtin, Patti Betti and their children.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Rose and Priscilla Amero, her son-in-law, Robert R. McPhail and her nephew, Pete Amero.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Allcare Hospice for the compassionate and loving

care they provided.

A memorial held in Peg's name will be announced at a later date.
