Gloucester - Margaret Lynch Pearson died on Sunday, July 5, 2026, surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Senator James Pearson of Kansas.

Born at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, MA. Margie grew up in Chestnut Hill, returning to Gloucester in the summer (where later she would become a permanent resident). She attended The Park School, Newton Country Day School, and Vassar College, where she was a dedicated member of the college alumni.

In 1965 Margie moved to Washington, DC. She served as a Senate Aid to Senator Hugh Scott at which time she met and married James Pearson. The couple commuted between Washington and Baldwin City, Kansas. During this time Margie became active at Baker University, embracing its traditions and position within the academic and Baldwin community. Following Senator Pearson's death in 2009, Margie continued her affiliation with the University, becoming one of its longest serving trustees. After moving back to Gloucester, she frequently returned to Baldwin not only for board meetings, but also to visit her cherished associates and the community she loved.

She was a devoted and longtime member of many Cape Ann organizations: Cape Ann Museum, St. Mary's Church, Gloucester Stage Co., Manship Artists Residency, Cape Ann Symphony, Beauport, Eastern Point Yacht Club and Cape Ann Garden Club. Margie was a cherished and admired friend to those of many different generations. Her friendships were rooted in shared values of care, loyalty and good humor. If there is a single memory to frame as a most favorite day for Margie, it would be of her under sail, at the helm of her Triangle sailboat, on a brilliant summer day off the Eastern Point Yacht Club where she was a lifetime member.

Margie is survived by her sister, Marietta Lynch; sister-in-law Nancy Burns Lynch; nephews George Lynch (wife Melissa), Matthew Lynch (wife Barbara), niece Martha Kopanon (husband Kevin) and beloved great nieces and great nephews Ava and John Lynch, Brooke and Aria Lynch, Camilla and Jasper Kopanon.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James; her parents, Margaret Farrell, Henry Donovan Schmidt and Dr. George Lynch; brothers William Lynch, Michael Lynch, and Nicholas Lynch. Margie once said, "The good days have far outnumbered the difficult, and no matter how joyous or painful the time, I have always had special friends and family to share it."

Burial will be Private in Washington, D.C. beside her husband.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 21,2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 24 Broadway, Rockport Ma. and a Celebration of Life open to all following the Service.
