Rockport - Marshall Randolph Saville, 92, of Rockport, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Den Mar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was predeceased by his beloved Martha (Fallenius) Saville, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, who passed in 1986.
He was born in Manhattan, New York City, on November 29, 1926 and he was the son of the late Randolph M. and Azuretta (Todd) Saville. His first two years of school were at the Trinity Episcopal School in New York City.
In 1935, the family moved to Rutherford, New Jersey, where he completed his schooling, graduating from Rutherford Senior High School in 1944. He joined the United States Navy as an Air crewman, serving on patrol bombers in the American Theatre until the end of World War II.
He graduated from Rutgers University in 1950 and was a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he joined A & M Karagheusian, manufacturers of Gulistan Carpets, and became their territory sales representative in Pittsburgh, PA covering Western PA, all of West Virginia and parts of Ohio and Maryland.
Marshall met his wife, Martha in 1954 and they were married in 1955 in Rockport before establishing their home in Pittsburgh. In 1956, they took an extended trip to Europe, traveling both ways by freighter. They visited Martha's family in Stockholm and Guthenburg, Sweden before making visits to London and Paris. Upon their return to Pittsburgh, Marshall joined the Market Planning Dept. at the headquarters of the Westinghouse Electric Corp.
In 1959, Marshall and his family moved to Rockport and he took a position in the Planning Dept. of the Research Division of United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly.
Marshall finished his business career by going into business for himself as an agent for the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. until it merged with the Massachusetts Mutual Ins. Co. from which he eventually retired. In his retirement, he had enjoyed traveling, photography and reading.
Marshall is survived by his son, Randolph Matts Saville and his wife Patricia and their children, Alexandra, Bradford and Elizabeth and by his son-in-law, Gary John Cahill and his wife, Alison. He is also survived by his dear friend Barbara J. Stewart and her wonderful family.
Marshall was predeceased, in addition to his wife, by his daughter, Anne Fallenius Saville; his brother, Leighton Todd Saville; and dear friends, Esther P. McLaughlin and Lucille N. Plunkett.
There are no visiting hours. His memorial service will be held in The First Congregational Church on School Street in Rockport on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. His burial will be held privately.
