Mary M. Burgarella Obituary

Acton - Acton - Mary Madeline Burgarella was born on June 27, 1923 in Gloucester, MA and passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025 at the age of 101. She loved traveling and experiencing different cultures. She managed to visit all seven continents and particularly enjoyed the animals in Kenya and the penguins in Antarctica.

Mary received a degree in library science from Simmons College. She lived in the Philippines for a year while working as a librarian for the US armed forces there. She also lived in Kyoto, Japan, and was living in Hawaii when it became a state. After returning to the US, Mary had a long career in library services for the state of Massachusetts.

She is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews for taking them to her parents' house in Gloucester for beach weekends, and generally for the time she spent with them on many occasions. She could also be counted on to supply everyone with homemade fudge at Christmas.

Mary was predeceased by her brother, Joe, and is survived by her brother John, and her sister Jean. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Jim, Paul, Jane, Ann Lisa, Carol, Steven, Peter, and David.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Our Lady of Good Voyage in Gloucester, MA.
