Maureen E. Murray Obituary

Gloucester - Maureen Elizabeth (Rogers) Murray, 83, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 16, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Born in Gloucester, Maureen was a graduate of Gloucester High School's class of 1960. She served as Commander of the Drill Team and was a member of the cheerleading team. She began her first job in the mailroom at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly, where she met the love of her life, Stephen John Murray. They were married in 1961 and shared a loving life until his passing ten years ago, during which Maureen devotedly cared for him through his illness.

Maureen worked in retail management at Designer's Clothing LTD, Empire Clothing, and Mahri's Jewelry, where she was known for her warmth and dedication. Her world was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved vacationing with them in New Hampshire — summers on the lakes, winters skiing and tubing. She also loved sitting on the Boulevard, watching the boats come in while enjoying ice cream with family.

Maureen was an active and devoted member of the Catholic Church, where her faith was an important part of her life.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Murray, Kathleen Smith and her husband Michael Smith; sister, Patricia Bertolino; grandchildren, Allison Tobin-Murray and her wife Taylor Tobin-Murray, Cameron Murray and his wife Shannon Mahoney, Olivia Smith, and Danielle Smith; and her great-grandchildren Nora, Cole, and Reese Tobin-Murray.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen John Murray; parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Rogers; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Murray; sister, Kathleen Remeika; sister-in-law, Virginia Mondello; brothers-in-law, Anthony Bertolino, John Remeika, and Joseph Mondello.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, 74 Pleasant St, Gloucester, on Monday, March 23rd at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the ASPCA (www.aspca.org), Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), or Cancer Research (www.cancer.org).
