Nicola A. "Nick" Barletta Obituary

Rockport - Rockport - Nicola A. "Nick" Barletta, 96, died peacefully on August 10, 2025.

A lifelong resident of Rockport, he was the son of the late Andrea (Henry) Barletta and Madelena (D'Argenio) Barletta. Nick attended Rockport Public Schools and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University. He was a mechanical engineer who worked primarily in the areas of aerospace and computer design.

Nick served on the Rockport Select Board for 39 years and was instrumental in leading many town improvement projects during his tenure. During this time, he also was active in many civic organizations in Rockport such as the Educational Foundation for Rockport and the Rockport Rotary. Nick was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joachim's Church for many years. During his youth, Nick was a member of the Rockport Boy Scouts and was particularly proud of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition to his passion for public service, Nick enjoyed working in his dahlia garden, traveling with his late wife, Mary, and spending time with his family and friends.

Nick is survived by his daughters, Celia Barletta of Rockport and Mary Barletta of Bourne, MA, his sister-in-law Dorothy M. Starble of Tuftonboro, NH and his dear nieces and nephews, whose lives he took a special interest in following.

Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Morgan) Barletta, brother Pasquale Barletta and his wife Muriel, sister Rosa Melanson and her husband Ted, brother-in-law Rev. Thomas Morgan, sister-in-law Ruth Morgan and brother-in-law Pasquale Starble.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joachim's Church, 56 Broadway, Rockport. Interment to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Educational Foundation for Rockport at P.O. Box 836, Rockport, MA 01966 or www.rockportedfoundation.org.
