Gloucester - Phyllis M. Holmes, 90, of Gloucester, formerly of Hamilton and Rockport, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Beverly, Mass., on April 11, 1929, daughter of the late Lester B. and Eleanor B. (Tillson) Holmes.
Phyllis worked as a housekeeper for many years. In her earlier years, she learned to play guitar and loved to play country and bluegrass music. She and her sister Jane would often play around at different venues and was heard by a producer of a radio station. That being said, they ended up playing for a few different radio stations including WLAW and WESX.
She came to Halibut Point in 1953 and was also known as the Crazy Cat Lady, a story about her and Notes from Halibut Point, written by Martin Ray.
Phyllis was a talented oil painter and also had a green thumb. She was an avid reader and loved the outdoors. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister, Jane Davis; niece, Sarah Kiger; nephew, Peter Davis; great-nephew, Erik Kiger; and her friends, Amy Lohman and Julie Macintyre.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal services.
