Raynor G. Adams Sr. Obituary

Sarasota - Sarasota - Raynor G. Adams Sr. passed away on May 1, 2025, at the Tidewell Hospice Home in Sarasota, FL with his family at his bedside. He was 91 years old.

Ray was born on May 16, 1933, at Lynn Hospital to Alden E. and Lillian B. Adams. They lived in Lynnfield, Massachusetts and later moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts where Ray attended public schools graduating from Gloucester High School class of 1951.

Ray served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. In 1953 he began his banking career at the Cape Ann Savings Bank in Gloucester where he worked for 42 years and held the positions of assistant vice president and assistant treasurer. When he retired, he moved to Englewood, Florida with his wife, Barbara, and became snowbirds, summering at Barrington Shores, New Hampshire and spending winters in Florida. He loved the Florida weather, sunsets, sunrises, walking on the beach, and music.

He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and grandchildren during those summers in New Hampshire with many activities for the kids, including campfires, canoeing, cookouts and playing games.

He lived in assisted living for the past five years in Sarasota, Florida. Despite losing his hearing and eyesight, he made the best of living life. When asked how he was doing, he would say, "I can't hear, and I can't see but I'm happy!"

Ray was a proud member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge of Gloucester, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1962.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Adams, his son Richard Adams, his former wife Sandra Adams, and grand-daughter-in-law Tiffany Adams.

He is survived by his son, Raynor Adams Jr., and daughter-in-law, Dawn (Shatford) Adams, of Franklin; as well as his grandchildren and their spouses: Danielle Mucciarone and her husband, Jeffrey, of Westford, Tammy Aiguier and her husband, Ernest, of Plymouth, Raynor Adams III of Tampa, Florida, and Derek Adams and his wife, Julie, of Bellingham. He also had seven great-grandchildren: Jaden, June and Cora Mucciarone, Mason and Nolan Aiguier, and Tawny and Kylie Adams. They enjoyed spending vacations in Florida celebrating milestone birthdays. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Kelly Townsend and her husband, Norman, of Framingham and their daughter, Hannah; as well as John Yeomans of Florida and his sons, Derek and Christopher, and many friends and relatives.

He will be remembered for singing, "I just called to say 'I love you'" on each phone call.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10 a.m. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be held in Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester.
