Gloucester - Richard P. Gallant Sr., age 86, of Gloucester, MA, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026 at the Kaplan House in Danvers after a long battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Gloucester, Richard was the son of the late Alfred and M. Madeline (Anderson) Gallant. Richard was educated in the Gloucester school system, served in the U.S. Air Force as a heavy equipment operator, and was a career Gloucester Firefighter, working for 30 years retiring in 1999. Richard was also known by the nicknames Dick and Rick. He enjoyed carpentry, antiquing, old cars, and had been a member of the North Shore Old Car Club. In his younger years, he and his wife Sandra enjoyed traveling along the east coast with friends in their motor home. They visited the Great Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, Disney, and other areas. In retirement, he taught himself to repair timepieces including watches, clocks, and grandfather clocks.
Richard was predeceased by his son, Richard (Ricky) Gallant Jr., sister, Carole Rosie, and brothers Ronald P. Gallant and Alfred Gallant Jr. Richard is survived by his wife, Sandra Kerr Gallant, daughter in law Maureen (Skoniecki) Gallant, grandchildren Kristy Rosenberg (husband, David Rosenberg), and Richard (Ricky) Gallant III, two great-grandchildren Rowan and Benson, three stepchildren, and five stepgrandchildren.
