Robert E. &x22Marty&x22 Marttila Obituary

Hampton, NH - Robert “Marty” Marttila, 80, of Hampton and formerly of Peabody, Mass. passed away peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2018.

Marty was born in Peabody, MA on November 12, 1937, the son of the late Neilo and Helen (Kramasz) Marttila and brother to the late Richard Marttila and Leonard Marttila.

After graduating from Peabody High School in 1955 where he was known as a polished clarinet player, Marty entered the Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1962, Marty returned to Peabody. He married Vincie Novello of Gloucester, MA, on November 14, 1963. In 1966, Marty and Vincie moved to Hampton where Marty worked as a master leather tanner for Pearse Leather Co Inc. for many years.

Marty, along with Vincie, were dedicated parents to their three children, Neil Marttila, Joseph Marttila and Annmarie Marttila Cobb. Marty enjoyed many years of coaching, and supporting his children’s activities, becoming heavily involved in the Hampton Youth Association, of which he served as President for two years. Whether it was helping to build new baseball dugouts for youth baseball, providing new soccer nets, scheduling hockey referees, driving his children to countless sporting events, or always having a few dollars for some snacks after a competition, Marty was omnipresent and very supportive in his children’s lives, always putting his children's priorities ahead of his own.

After retirement, Marty enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Ty Cobb, Griffin Cobb, Carson Cobb, Emma Cobb, Robert Marttila and Jackson Marttila, showing the same dedication as a grandparent as he had shown as a parent and husband.

Marty is survived by his wife Vincie, his sons, Neil Marttila and Joseph Marttila, his daughter Annmarie Marttila Cobb, his daughter-in-law Lauren Marttila, his son-in-law, Tyrus Cobb III, his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Marttila, his grandchildren, Robert Marttila, Jackson Marttila, Tyrus Cobb IV, Griffin Cobb, Carson Cobb, Emma Cobb, his brother, Leonard Marttila and sister-in-law Jean Marttila.

However you knew him: “Marty”, “ Bobby”, husband, brother, dad, father-in-law, brother-in-law, friend, neighbor, classmate or coach, he will be missed.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, NH 03842.
