Gloucester - Robert D. "Bob" Geary, age 97, lifelong resident of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026. He was the husband of the late Irene (Carroll) Geary, with whom he shared 64 years of beautiful marriage.

Born in Gloucester, Bob was the son of the late Harold and Gladys (Couihan) Geary. Working as a mechanic at Sudbay's in Gloucester for over 30 years, Bob spent much of his life tinkering with engines of all sorts. When his children were still young, Bob refurbished an old school bus into an RV/camper and used it for family vacations up and down the eastern seaboard. As an Army Ranger Paratrooper, Bob served his country during the Korean War. Bob will be remembered by those who love him for his soulful belly laughter; his incredibly kind, compassionate, and gentle nature; his dedication to his family; and his magnificent woodworking. Most of all, Bob's memory and enduring spirit will be carried on through the hearts and minds of the extraordinary family he built.

Bob is survived by his six children, Donna Smith and her husband Steve Smith of Ipswich; Cindy Geary and her husband Richard Souza of Gloucester; Dana Geary and his wife Kristine Geary of Gloucester; Timothy Geary and his wife Celeste Geary of Gloucester; Robert (Bobby) Geary of Gloucester; and Faye McGrath and her husband Tim McGrath of Raleigh, NC. His memory will also be carried on in the hearts of his ten grandchildren, Stacy Smith and her husband Dave Simonds; Christine (McGrath) Chermak; Stephan McGrath; Cody Geary; Martine Geary-Souza; Brendan Geary; Conor Geary; and Lex and Robert Geary III. He will also be survived by eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was predeceased by his granddaughter Nicole (Geary) Phelan in 2008.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday June 3, 2026, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to organizations doing research regarding dementia, Care Dimensions (75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923), and/or Senior Care (49 Blackburn Center, Gloucester MA 01930). The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Atrium at Veronica Drive for the compassionate care that they gave to Bob.
