Clearwater, FL - Rosalie Backus passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019.
Born and raised in Gloucester, Mass., she moved to Dunedin, Fla. in 1976. She worked for Steak & Shake for many years, before working for the City Of Clearwater at the Library and retiring from the Utilities Dept. Lale loved the beach, watching her favorite "pros" in tennis matches, traveling with her sisters and caring for her grandchildren. She was the daughter of Captain Philip and Grace (Parisi) Curcuru, sister of fourteen brothers and sisters. She made up the perfect dozen. Number "12".
Lale is survived by her son, Jay A. Backus and daughters; Rene (John) Waterbor, Karen Backus and Leslie Backus, four grandchildren; Dustin (Lena) Backus, Dylan Davidson, Gina Waterbor and Evan Waterbor, two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Evelyn Backus. She is also survived by sisters; Grace Nicastro, Mary Fuhs, and Catherine Nickerson, brothers; Anthony (Janice) Curcuru, Gerald (Joanne) Curcuru and Charles "Bobby" (Marcia) Curcuru, sisters-in-law; Phyllis Curcuru and Anita Curcuru, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Grace. Sister, Felicia Curcuru Lowe, brothers, Salvatore (Florence) Curcuru, Nicholas Curcuru, John B (Phylis) Curcuru, Liborio Curcuru, Thomas (Nina) Curcuru, Philip (Catherine) Curcuru and brothers-in-law, Sebastion Nicastro, William Belanger and Paul Fuhs. After a long battle with cancer, Lale is now finally at Peace. May her Soul Rest In Heaven. Amen
