Rockport - Ruth Natalie Josephson, 97, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019, at Gloucester Healthcare. Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Sadie (Kontrovitz) Russell.
Ruth enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was retired from the Sanger Library in Toledo, Ohio, where she served many years as Head Clerk. Her hobbies included walks by the ocean in Rockport where she lived for many years. She also enjoyed her coin collection and her stamp collection. She was active in her church and was a help and friend to her many neighbors at Millbrook Park where she lived.
Ruth is survived by her son Michael Josephson and his wife Roberta of Beverly, Mass.; her daughter Doreen Lowenthal of Florida; her brother Al Russell and his wife Phyllis of Indiana; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Pamela Ott Pederson.

A memorial service will be held for Ruth on Friday, November 15, at 10 a.m. at the Community Church of East Gloucester, 7 Chapel Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. Those attending may wish to prepare remarks they might like to share.

What an amazing grandmother!

Ruth Natalie Josephson died on Monday, October 28, 2019 in Glouster, Massachusetts. A grave side service was held on Sunday, November 3, 2019 in Toledo Ohio, allowing this sweet woman to rest next to her husband.

Ruth was the first child of two born of her parents Union, born on January 5, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio to Sadie Russell (Kontrovitz) and Elias Russell. Her brother Alvin was born 4 years later. She was raised and educated in Toledo and graduated from Scott High School in Toledo. She completed training at Davis Business College in Toledo. On January 27, 1946 she was united in marriage to Eli Julius Josephson and 3 children came from this union: Doreen Bet
...h Lowenthal (Josephson), Pamela Sue Pedersen (Josephson) and Michael Alan Josephson. Eli J Josephson died in 1957.

Ruth established a career as a Clerk with the Toledo/Lucas County Library, Sanger Branch, and after more than 25 years, retired as Sr. Library Clerk in Toledo, and spent her retirement enjoying her family and friends, which was her greatest love. Ruth was an active member in Pioneer Women, Women's Labor Zionist Organization of America for many years. In 1989 she was named “Woman of the Year” and honored with a Lifetime Membership in the same year. Ruth was also active in Girl scouts as a leader, a Cub scout Den mother, and a member of the VFW. Ruth organized and set up the library for the Congregation Etz Chayim.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Josephson; parents, Elias and Sadie (Kontrovitz) Russell; and her daughter, Pamela Sue Pedersen (Josephson). Ruth’s family was the most important thing in her life. She lived for the contact from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Doreen Beth Lowenthal (Florida) and Michael Alan Josephson (Roberta), (Massachusetts); Grandchildren, Erika Loudy (Romanoff) (John) (Tennessee), Jennifer DiBlanda (Romanoff) (Gary) (Connecticut), Tara Romanoff (Florida), and Erin Haynes(Romanoff) (Scott) (Virginia); Elissa O’Leary(Ott) (Patrick) (Oregon), Michaela Ott(Oregon), Joshua Ott (Leslie) (Illinois), Andrew Ott (Washington); Dustin Josephson (Virginia), Charles Josephson (Malay) (Maine) Great Grandchildren: Michael Stalsworth (Maryland), Taylor Stalsworth (Connecticut), Joseph Stalsworth (Connecticut); Rudolph Battles, Jr. (Florida), Sarah Battles (Florida) Alyssa Battles (North Carolina), Marcus Battles (Florida); Clayton Baxter (Kansas), Quinton Baxter (Virginia), Preston Baxter (Kansas), Mason Haynes(Tennessee); Grace Johnson (Sean) (Oregon), Maggie Ott (Oregon); Molly O’Leary(Oregon), Erin O’Leary(Oregon), Patrick James O’Leary (Oregon); Sydney Josephson (Maine) and Sadie Josephson (Maine). She is also survived by her brother Alvin Russell (Phyllis) (Indiana) and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Ruth and I were best friends for 20 years. She made my heart happy. I will miss her but look forward to the day we will meet again.
