Gloucester - Salvatore P. "Torry" Favazza, 69, of Gloucester, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday afternoon, July 11, 2019, at the Den-Mar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockport. Born in Gloucester on September 25, 1949, he was the beloved son of Joseph J. and Grace (Aiello) Favazza of Gloucester. He was raised and educated in Gloucester, graduating from St. Ann Parochial School, and was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1967. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam War as an SP4 medic in the United States Army.
Torry had been employed in various occupations locally. He started his work life as a young teen in the fish processing plants in the Fort. He also worked at Gorton's, Rockport Tool and Die, and was on the custodial staff for the Gloucester Public Schools. His most recent occupation was as a custodian for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
A lifelong resident of Gloucester, he was a former member of the Captain Lester S. Wass American Legion Post #3. He participated in many local recreational basketball and softball teams for many years. He especially enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards, and was admired as an excellent cribbage player.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Tara Favazza of Brookline; two sons, Damian Favazza and his wife Brenda of Grand Island, Neb., and Chad Favazza of Amherst; five grandchildren, Alaura, Ashlyn, Amayah, Anton and Adleigh Favazza all of Grand Island, Neb.; two sisters, Lianne Palazola and Jolene Erickson, both of Gloucester; four brothers, John Favazza and his wife Maria of Gloucester, Joseph Favazza and his wife Donna of Milford, Conn., Paul Favazza and his wife Rebecca of Gloucester, and Stephen Favazza and his wife Susan of Gloucester. He also leaves 14 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and -nephews; many uncles, and aunts, and dozens of cousins.

His funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Parish, St. Ann's Church, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. A visiting hour will be held in the church prior to the Mass on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Torry's name may be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 74 Pleasant Street Gloucester MA, 01930, or to Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church.
