Santo Mineo Obituary

Gloucester - Santo Mineo, 91, of Gloucester, Mass., passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of Alfonso and Antonina Natalina (Spina) Mineo, born on November 1, 1927, in Trapina, Sicily. He came to America with his family at the age of 6.

Santo was a famous Gloucester fisherman for decades. In his younger years he worked for his father, Alfonso Mineo, and his Uncle Frank Mineo on the fishing vessel The Alden. He captained the family-owned vessels Blue Waters and Antonina, and was one of the high-liner captains in the Gloucester Fleet. He was a jack-of-all-trades who loved helping family and friends on many projects. Santo made friends with anyone he came in contact with; there was never a stranger in his life. He was there to help anyone in need even when he didn’t have much to give. Santo was a supporter of the AA foundation and sponsored many going through troubled times.

Santo will be greatly missed by all, but especially his son Alfonso Mineo and his wife Patricia; daughter Natalie Sweet and her husband Mike; son Sebastian Mineo and his partner Scott Ranagan; and daughter Maria Manning; grandchildren, Dawn, Carrie, Keith, Chris, Nathan, Aaron, Bethany, Jennifer, Brian, Kevin, Joe, and Bryan; 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Santo was predeceased by his parents; his children’s mothers, Cede Lovasco Panos and Maria Manning Mineo. He is survived by two sisters; three brothers; many nieces, nephews, friends; and his beloved dog, Lilly.

His funeral services will be at the Gloucester Assembly of God, Washington St., Gloucester, on April 6, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Santo’s name to Alcoholics Anonymous or the American Cancer Society. For online condolences and register book, please visit www.pikenewhall.com.
