Rockport - Waino T. "Ted" Komi, 83, of Rockport, Passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a brief illness.

A Rockport native who was born in Rockport on December 28, 1941, to Toivo M. and Sylvia M. Komi. He graduated from Rockport High School in 1959. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, Rank CS3, USS MacDonough. He worked for Simplex Wire and Cable Co. in Cambridge, MA and then for the U.S. Postal Service at the South Annex in Boston, MA until his retirement on October 2, 1992. As a younger man, he traveled a lot and visited the UK, Russia, Yugoslavia, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and several other countries. He loved to travel in England, especially London.

He was an avid reader of non-fiction books and a lover of biographies. He loved history. He had a photographic memory for people's names and birthdays and anything historical. He enjoyed Vaugh Monroe's songs, Phil Harris' records, Guy Lombardo's Band, Precision Marching Bands, Jackie Gleason, Norman Rockwell, Red Skelton, Lawrence Welk. He adored his Aunt Eva Wakeling and spending time with her and his cousin Bill Wakeling at their home on Warren Court, especially on the 4th of July for their annual cookouts. He especially loved Christmas in Rockport, blueberry pie with vanilla bean ice cream, old photos and genealogy.

Ted was a very sociable person. He loved old friends and enjoyed making new friends. He was known for his long telephone "chats" with family and friends. He had a very dear friend, Terry Collins, who was like a brother to him. They enjoyed their walks around Rockport together for years.

He was a life member of: Disable American Veteran's Chapter 10 Boston, MA, Tin Can Sailors (Destroyers), US Navy League, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Sandy Bay Historical Society and the Olde Rockport Firehouse Trust and was a member of the Edward Peterson Post 98, American Legion, Rockport, MA.

He is survived by his son Theodore M. Komi and his wife Brianna M. (Broad) of Gloucester. His daughter, Karen A. Poole of Gloucester. His granddaughter Kristina Marie Holmberg of Boston, grandson, Brandon James Poole, great-granddaughters Melody Ann Marie Mattson, Aubrey Ellen Mattson, and Clover Jean Grossi all of Gloucester. He is also survived by his sister Linda C. Spiewak of Rockport. His niece Pamela A. Hickey and her husband Peter of Danvers. His nephew Timothy E. Mitchell and his wife Gledys of Gloucester.

He was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude R. Chick. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Arnold J. Spiewak.

Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Monday, December 29, from 4-6p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, at 11a.m. at Greely Funeral Home.
