Athol, MA - William McCallum Jr., 81, of Athol, formerly of Gloucester, husband of Elizabeth "Beth" (Mastrogiacomo) McCallum passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, September 19, 2019 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on November 29, 1937, son of the late William and Elsa (Nyegard) McCallum.
Bill was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1957. He worked for many years as a drafting engineer at Aucillo Ironworks. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, becoming a master at it and even built his home and a boat. Bill loved the ocean, golfing and cross country skiing. He also loved to travel with his wife to many of their favorite places including Europe and the Islands. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth "Beth McCallum of Athol; daughter, Cathy Hennessey and her husband Richard of Lunenburg; sons, Shawn McCallum of Gloucester, Dennis Wilbur and his wife, Deborah of Gardner, MA, John Wilbur of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Dilyn McCallum, Adam and Mikaila Wilbur, Joshua, Nicole, Shawna and Peter Hennessey; sisters, Nancy M. Olson and her husband Eric Bergengren of Gloucester and Mary Jane Corliss and her husband Warren of Front Royal, VA; nieces, Heidi Reardon and Amanda Orfanos; nephews, Alex Olson, Richard, Nathan and Caleb Corliss; great-niece, Madison Turner and great-nephew, Gryphon Orfanos.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Salvation Army, 93-95 North Street, Salem, MA 01970.
