Gloucester - Z. Mildred (Rocha) Ball, of Gloucester passed away on Thursday January 23, 2019. She is the wife of the late James E. Ball.
Mildred was born in Bristol, RI on March 18, 1929 to Jose and Rufina (Silva) Rocha.
She graduated from Gloucester High School class of 1946. Later she worked as a legal courier for Hull & Ayers and then as a legal secretary for Morris Katz. She retired after working as a paralegal for Ronald B. Horvitz, Esq. for over 35 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Auxiliary, Gloucester Fraternity Club, and the D.E.S Club.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Mitchell of Gloucester and Irene Lowe of San Diego, her four children, David Lane and his wife Kathleen of Gloucester, Scott Lane and his wife, Susan of Rockport, Sharon Militello of Gloucester, and Gary Lane of Gloucester. She leaves 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She also leaves a special niece, Larraine (Cookie) Milone, her favorite son-in-law, Anthony Militello, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Sylvia Mitchell, Alex Rocha, Joseph Rocha, Grace King and Manuel Rocha. She is also predeceased by her very special godchild, Chuck Mitchell.
Mildred was an exceptional cook (eclairs were her specialty). Her off-beat sense of humor and her wisdom and guidance will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.
Her visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 9 to 11:30 a.m., followed by her Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester at 12 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery immediately following Mass.
